With the European elections coming up in the spring, the European Parliament – last in the adoption process – will stop working in March 2019. There is not much time to go through all the different steps of the process. Here is what to expect:

In November, the Commission notifies the World Trade Organisation on each of the rules in development, and at the same time opens a Feedback portal for anyone to wishes to submit their views on these.

In December and January, Member States will meet in Brussels to vote on the texts. Product after product, they will rework the Commission proposal until they reach a compromise.

Then comes the Parliament steps in, having the right to reject the texts altogether.

Finally, the Commission adopts the texts and publishes them in the Official Journal of the European Union.
