This is a rough estimate of the calendar for the implementation of the EU Ecodesign of Energy Related Products Directive and related measures under the Energy Labelling Directive - i.e. which and when main product requirements and labels will be debated and set by law or voluntary agreement.

First half of 2012

  • publication in the Official Journal of the measure for domestic air-conditioners (March).
  • publication in the Official Journal of the measure for water pumps.

 

  • finalisation and vote of the long-awaited measures for boilers and water heaters (May/June).
  • finalisation and vote of the measures for tumble driers (planned on 10 May).
  • finalisation and vote on directional lighting (planned on 13 July).
  • finalisation and vote of the long-awaited measures for computers & monitors.

 

  • consultation on a number of kitchen appliances: coffee machines, hobs, ovens, kitchen hoods (April).
  • first consultation on professional refrigerating equipment (January).
  • first consultation on electric transformers (April).
  • first consultation on local room heaters (planned on 11 July).
  • first consultation on solid fuel boilers (planned on 12 July).

 

  • publication of the study on the Evaluation of the Ecodesign Directive (April).
  • horizontal consultation on the improvement of the policy process (April).
  • publication of the Ecodesign Working Plan 2012-2014 (May).
  • adoption of the revised methodology for Energy-Related Products (MEErP).

 

Later in 2012

  • finalisation and votes expected for vacuum cleaners, network standby.
  • review and revision of the Ecodesign measure for televisions (adopted in 2009).
  • first consultation on sound & imaging equipment: game consoles, DVD players, projectors.
  • second consultation on electric transformers.

 

In the meantime, on-going preparatory studies will be completed on machine tools, industrial furnaces, tertiary ventilation and air-conditioning.  New preparatory studies will be launched on compressors, special motors and pumps for waste water, swimming pools and aquariums.  

According to our information, some amendments will also be proposed in 2012 on the measures for electric motors and circulators adopted in 2009.
